If you choose to relax in Croatia and are in the vicinity of Split, be sure to stay in this beautiful, historic port city for at least a few hours. Split is the largest city on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and the second largest Croatian city. It is an economic and tourist center and attracts more and more guests from all over the world every year. It is famous for the ancient Roman palace, the beautiful sea and the islands that surround it. Although it is a relatively small city compared to other European tourist capitals, it does not lag behind in terms of attractions and amenities. Its history, gastronomy and atmosphere are certainly only some of the reasons why Split is an essential summer location.
However, Splitsko-Dalamtinska županija has many other beautiful ancient towns and even islands that are worth visiting.
Not far from Split you will find Trogir. A city that has been inhabited since prehistoric times and where the first ever pharmacy in Europe was opened in 1271. The most impressive building in the old city center is the Cathedral of St. Vavrinec, whose final form took several centuries and is still manifested in various artistic during the construction of the cathedral itself.
Omiš is also a popular summer destination. This pirate city was protected by two forts. The 13th century Mirabela fortress is located just above the old part of town, as a permanent reminder of the famous pirate past. The old pirates used it as a vantage point from which to watch the Brač Channel, so that the rich merchant ships near Omiš could not pass unnoticed. The city was also guarded by the Fortica fortress, which offers one of the most beautiful views in all of Dalmatia. From the fortress you can enjoy a unique view of the islands of Brač, Hvar and Šolta, the Cetina canyon and a large part of Poljica.
Makarska is a resort known even to our great-grandparents. A lively city, endless beaches hidden under pine trees and a magical port. There is probably no one who would not like to walk through the streets of this city.
Tučepi can also boast a beautiful promenade, and it is definitely worth going to the sun-drenched islands of Brač and Hvar, where you can still find many wild beaches and untouched virgin Adriatic nature.
